TaKacat, the inflatable catamarans annexes

Inflatable catamarans . Takacat is a complete range of inflatable boats with a catamaran hull and hyper-foldable thanks to their tubular and removable rear “table”.

These two assets are far from being the only ones as we will see below.

1 – CARENE CATAMARAN: Stability and speed

Moving in the annex is rarely synonymous with great serenity both from the point of view of the helmsman and even less so from that of the passenger. Access is often acrobatic whether from the boat or from the port.

All Takacat have a catamaran hull, i.e. they sail on the two side socks only. This formula has two main advantages, stability and speed.

  • Stable, they are beyond expectations by combining two proven formulas, that of side inflatable socks (large volume semi-rigid type) and that of the catamaran principle intrinsically resistant to capsiling. Indeed, it is impossible to find better in terms of stability.
  • Fast, obviously due to the small wet surface and their lightness.

2 – PNEUMATIC STRUCTURE: Transport, comfort, safety, storage

The huge volumes of air of the lateral floats as well as the floor add up to ensure extraordinary buoyancy, thank you Archimedes for this push, which reassures the legislator and therefore allows a 2m40 Takacat to take on board 15 times its own weight (300kg/20kg).

Whether it is puddings swollen at 3 bars or 10 like the floor, their surface contact has a relative softness much less aggressive than a hard shell; no chance to turn a toe during a false maneuver or bruise the buttocks in front of the clap.

The formula in three separate parts facilitates folding both in time and in volume, take a look at the summary table below, you will not have seen such compactness before.

Lightness finally with large volumes of hull certainly but fortunately stuffed with air either at the finish of the surprisingly low weights also due to the absence of a classically heavy back panel…

3 – FOLDABLE: tubular & removable back panel

This absence of a classic back panel style of plywood board or polyester thickened beyond reasonable to take the weight and torque of the outboard contributes to the lightness of the Takacat but also to their unusual compactness when folded.

This “table” is actually a mesh of stainless bars whose ends slip into soft notches of the floats. It’s simple and proven. We disassemble them in a tim of an eye and everything fits in the bag.

Rid of these rigid parts, the folding of the Takacat is child’s play and its dimensions are no longer conditioned like its competitors to the incompressible dimensions of the board.

4 – OPEN BAW (option): Bath and beach access

The Takacat are born with a flat and open bow but they can also be ordered closed at the front more conventionally.

Why an open barr?

  • Easy access to the water or the beach, indeed getting back on board for a diver or a bather is no longer a problem, a foriori to get off there. Similarly, we can easily stand without our hands on a Takacat, it would have been a shame to help them to get off. The hyper rigid flat bottom because of high pressure, the catamaran formula that beaches the boat flat like a landing barge, everything encourages you to move standing and on the right foot from and to the beach. Try it you will see it’s new, much more elegant and much more practical than our usual postures.
  • The volume of flotation of the socks but especially of the floor even in its front part allow this original design without a defensive pudding, indeed the furnace is no more risky than with a classic V-bow, and even if a sneaky wave would wet your feet the water will not stagnate at the bottom, no need to catch…
  • Know for the most worried that there is a more classic bow option for each boat with a sausage certainly not as voluminous as the lateral ones but oh so much more aesthetic than the traditional competition.

5 – OPEN TABLE: safety & cleanliness

Navigation at sea even in a port can be frankly humid and generate stagnant water in the bottoms like a good grain or a sneaky wave.

Takacat eliminates this problem with a largely transparent back because it is open. The water is automatically and immediately evacuated through the rear panel regardless of the volume on board. So no matter the sleet, surges or unexpected water inlets, you will never have any water or other stagnant liquids at the bottom of the boat.

Similarly to the trailer no longer any risk of seeing the annex fill violently with water, brake brutally and tear off the end or loop that connected it to the tractor boat.

Your annex will remain clean 365 days a year and the maneuverability of your Takacat never defaulted for lack of a submersion exceeding its payload.

5 – DROPSTICH BACKGROUND: Rigidity & lightness

The floor of the Takacat is a Dropstitch sandwich similar to those that form the float of the standup paddles that everyone now knows.

This floor slips between the two socks and entwed between them it forms the spine of the boat. It does not deform in torsion or bending and maintains the rigidity of the whole despite the load and the heavy presence of the engine at the rear. The combination of the floor, socks and rear lattice ensures the job perfectly despite the absence of welding and gluing binding them together.

This is the whole point of the Takacat formula, a removable, rigid and light “puzzle”.

For this last point, I let you refer to the table below gathering all the models.

6 – GLOBALLY FLAT DESIGN: Easy storage

This is one of the happy consequences of Takacat design, there is no overall raise of the bow compared to the upper line of the socks. A Takacat whether you place it on your stomach or back will not vary in its external dimensions brought back to the ground.

It is a plus for on-board storage where space is rened and the thickness of an annex is often a disability as well as an aerodynamic brake.

7 – MATERIAL: Hypalon or Pvc

Takacat is one of the few brands of annexes that leave you the choice of material, PVC or Hypalon. Each has its particular advantages, for more information refer to the following article:

However, the very high pressure Dropstitch floor will necessarily remain in PVC and will benefit like the rest of the 100% pvc boats, from long-lasting anti-UV protection.

Takacat: a little history

Takacat is a “young” New Zealand company whose taste for innovation is recognized.

Its history began in 2007 with the launch of motorized inflatable catamarans bringing together the often contradictory qualities of safety, speed and stability without sacrificing either their versatility or practicality.

Led by Greg Snowden, Takacat prides itself on offering the most qualitative and innovative sides on the market with a sustainable vision of the customer relationship.

Takacat, you will love…

It all started with Greg’s personal experience whose young years were used to spend as much time on the water as possible, like any good New Zealander, teasing the fish, or hunting it in its element, alone or with his family.

The constraints and dissatisfaction encountered during this period during his outings led straight to the inflatable catamarans of its design and object of this article.

Since 2007, much has been come a long way as shown by the following images and the global recognition of the various players in the nautical world with regard to the intrinsic qualities of Takacat: performance, versatility, portability, economy and marine qualities.
